Andrea Lillian is an emerging artist born in Sydney, Australia (1998). She is a recent graduate of the University of Oxford and has recently returned to Sydney after five years living and working abroad in London, where her practice took shape across student and professional studios.

Working primarily with film photography hand-printed onto heavy canvas, Lillian’s practice unfolds through layers: washed, dreamlike images softened by time, overlaid with playful mixed media and thick, buttery paint. Her works exist somewhere between image and object, photograph and painting—material experiments that privilege texture, tactility, and slowness. The canvas becomes a site of memory rather than documentation, resisting clarity in favour of feeling.

Her visual language is rooted in childhood, nostalgia, and travel, circling themes of innocence, longing, and the refusal to fully grow up. Lillian is drawn to fleeting moments and half-remembered scenes: the intimacy of domestic spaces, the haze of youth, the emotional residue left behind by places once lived in. Her work often feels diaristic, yet deliberately unfinished, allowing room for projection and misremembering.

Lillian is currently developing her first major body of work following her 2025 graduation, a debut collection that continues her exploration of memory as something unstable, tactile, and quietly emotional. The collection is scheduled for release next year.

Alongside her visual practice, Lillian is also a published writer and poet. Her work has appeared in a number of literary journals and magazines, and she is the recipient of several short fiction awards. Writing remains a parallel practice—informing her visual work through narrative, tone, and an enduring fascination with interior worlds.
